 Staking Problem? Find Out Why
  Thursday, June 17, 2010

SM&P was recently acquired by the United States Infrastructure Corporation (USIC) and is now handling staking duties, or at least attempting to, in Michigan. By USIC’s own admission they were nearly three thousand locates behind as of June 10.  This information was provided at a recent Damage Prevention meeting held at the MITA building. Unfortunately, the problem continues to grow as frustrated contractors (rightly so) call in additional staking requests on top of ones already submitted.

The best way to clear up this problem is to push on tickets that are already in the system. MITA is ready and willing to assist members in that regard; if you need support, simply call the MITA office at (517) 347-8336.

USIC is in the process of training several new stakers and expects to have them in the field within the next few weeks. Additionally, they are bringing in numerous stakers (50+) from out of state on the weekends in an attempt to get caught up. Several facility owners have also committed resources to help bring USIC up to speed. The hope seems to be that things will be back to normal within a few weeks.
