A Pavement Pounder is an individual who makes a commitment to MITA and the industry as a whole to donate his or her time to make routine contact with their elected officials. These efforts include: meeting with your elected officials to discuss pressing issues, and these meetings can be as simple as attending a regularly scheduled coffee hour or as detailed as a prearranged meeting; being a part of and attending scheduled lobby days, where the collective voices of the MITA members can be heard by our state legislators; telephone calls to your elected officials; and, written and email correspondence regarding the issues.
The time and effort invested by our current Pavement Pounders have helped advance our goal of adequate infrastructure investment. The relationships our Pavement Pounders have developed with their elected officials are critical as we push for meaningful legislation for the industry.
While we continue to make strides, we cannot back away from these efforts. It is for that reason that we are calling on each member to become a Pavement Pounder. Each step you take as a Pavement Pounder is not alone. MITA has the staff and resources to assist you in the process, and has made this effort a top priority. You will receive regular emails alerting you to the most recent legislative developments in Washington and Lansing, which will help you be on top of the pertinent issues as you work with your elected officials.
The heavy construction industry is at a pivotal moment, and MITA needs emerging leaders to stand up and be strong advocates for the industry. Will you meet that challenge?
