History of AUC

AUC began in 1946 as a Detroit area tunnel contractors association and soon after grew to represent underground contractors throughout southeast Michigan. In the 1990's AUC became a state wide construction trade association when it merged with regional groups from central and western Michigan.

Soon after, the organization expanded to include many other areas in Michigan’s heavy construction industry such as road/bridge building, electrical contracting, painting, plus more, and thus became known as Michigan's Heavy Construction Association.

Member companies received a variety of services, including labor relations, legislative representation, construction safety services, regulatory involvement (Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, etc.), utility damage consultation, seminars, and publications.

History of MRBA

MRBA was founded in 1928 by a small group of road contractors. The objectives were the coordination of road improvements and the securing of adequate funding to get Michigan "out of the mud," allowing commerce to move and the State's economy to grow.

Throughout the decades, MRBA efforts included protecting funding for roads in the 30's, joined war efforts to build roads in the 40's, brought the Interstate Highway program in the 50's and helped to create safety laws in the 70's which are still in effect today.  MRBA also worked to convince legislative bodies of the need to adequately fund highways for the good of the motorists and for the continued growth of Michigan's economy.

MRBA's efforts and services helped the road building industry to thrive for decades in Michigan.

What is MITA?

The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA) is a statewide construction trade association that consists of nearly 600 Michigan companies representing construction disciplines such as road and bridge, sewer and water, utility, railroad, excavation and specialty construction throughout the state of Michigan.
